FAQ's

Why do I get a headache when I have neck pain? Neck pain and headaches frequently come hand in hand. There are many causes of headaches, however muscle tension and trigger points can commonly refer pain to the head. These 'tension' type headaches often start at the base of the skull and refer to the front of the head. For a full assessment to determine the cause of your headaches or neck pain, get in touch today.

Why does my neck click? There are 7 vertebra at the top of your spine which make up your neck. The bones are connected together by smaller joints called facet joints. The clicking sound is usually tiny gas bubbles being released from the joints and is completely normal. Ligaments or tendons moving over bones can also cause clicking. If your neck clicking is painless it is unlikely to represent anything serious, however if it occurs after trauma and is painful, it could indicate something more serious and should be examined.

Why do I have a hump at the base of my neck? Some people develop a small ‘hump’ at the base of the neck. This is mostly related to posture, sometimes known as ‘forward head posture’. As the body responds to the load from your head being held a little more forward than usual, the body tries to stabilise the joints in a different position or tighten the muscles locally to adapt to the posture. Stretches, Osteopathy and postural changes can help!
