Knees
FAQ's
Why does my knee 'give way'? The causes of knees ‘giving way’ varies greatly depending on many factors such as age, sporting activity and the absence/involvement of trauma. The knee is a complex joint and many parts can be responsible such as loose bodies in the joint, damage to the joint surfaces or ligament tears etc. Your osteopath will assess the different structures that make up your knee and identify the cause of the giving way.
Why do I have a bony bump below my kneecap? Just below the knee cap is the top of one of the bones in your leg called the tibia. It is here that many muscles attach, including your quadriceps muscles via your patella tendon. Sometimes, in sporty (not always) teenagers, the bones grow faster than the muscles causing a pull on the growth plate at the top of the bony tibia. Physical therapy, exercises and advice can help to alleviate symptoms during this period of rapid growth and there are usually no long -lasting effects.
