Health and Safety Information – Online Exercise Videos
Our exercise videos are designed to help you understand your body, keep moving and build confidence in movement. We want you to feel informed and comfortable exploring the exercises at your own pace.
Please read the following information before starting any of our online exercise videos.
1. General exercise guidance
The exercises demonstrated in our videos provide general guidance about movement and musculoskeletal health. They have not been individually prescribed for you and may not be suitable for everyone.
Your symptoms, medical history, fitness, physical abilities and personal circumstances are unique. An exercise that is appropriate for one person may not be right for another.
Purchasing or watching a video does not constitute an individual osteopathic assessment, diagnosis or treatment plan.
If you are unsure whether an exercise programme is appropriate for you, speak to a suitably qualified healthcare professional before beginning.
2. Listen to your body
Movement can sometimes feel uncomfortable, particularly if you are experiencing pain or stiffness. However, you should not feel that you need to push through significant or unexpected symptoms to complete an exercise.
When exercising:
-
Start gently and build up gradually at a pace that feels manageable.
-
Move within a comfortable range and adapt the movement to suit your current abilities.
-
Take breaks whenever you need them.
-
Avoid forcing movements or pushing beyond your capabilities.
-
Stop an exercise if you experience significant or unexpected pain, dizziness, numbness, weakness or other concerning symptoms.
Some mild, temporary discomfort may occur during movement, but this is not something you need to push through. If symptoms persist, worsen or concern you, stop the exercise and seek appropriate advice.
You do not need to complete every repetition or exercise shown in a video. Your safety and comfort are more important than following the programme exactly.
3. When to seek professional advice
Please seek advice from an appropriate healthcare professional before starting if you:
-
Have a medical condition or injury that may affect your ability to exercise safely.
-
Have recently undergone surgery or are recovering from a significant injury.
-
Are pregnant or have recently given birth and are unsure which exercises are suitable.
-
Have been advised to restrict certain activities or movements.
-
Have new, unexplained, persistent or worsening symptoms.
-
Are uncertain whether the exercises are appropriate for you.
Do not use our videos to delay seeking medical assessment or treatment when you need it.
Seek urgent medical attention if you develop symptoms that may indicate a serious medical problem. For example, new bladder or bowel dysfunction, numbness around the saddle area, or rapidly progressive weakness associated with back pain require emergency assessment. In the UK, attend A&E or call 999 for an emergency.
4. Creating a safe environment
Before beginning an exercise session:
-
Choose a clear space with enough room to move safely.
-
Use a stable chair, wall or other support where appropriate.
-
Make sure the floor and any exercise equipment are safe and secure.
-
Wear suitable clothing and footwear for the exercises.
-
Keep children and pets away from your exercise area where they could create a trip or injury risk.
-
Ensure you can see and hear the video clearly without needing to look at your device while performing a movement that requires your attention.
If an exercise requires equipment, only use equipment that is appropriate, stable and in good condition.
5. Exercise and individual results
Everyone responds differently to exercise. We cannot guarantee that the exercises will relieve your pain, improve a particular condition, prevent injury or produce a specific outcome.
Your progress may depend on your health, circumstances, consistency and the nature of your symptoms.
It is normal for your ability and tolerance to vary from day to day. Adjust your activity accordingly rather than feeling that you must achieve a particular target.
6. If you have questions or concerns
If you are unsure whether a video is suitable for you, or if you experience difficulties while following the exercises, please seek advice from an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.
If you have a question about accessing your purchased video, please contact Vale Osteopathy at [Insert contact email].
